Review

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs-bit of a mouthful (no pun intended) so we will stick with Cloudy if that’s ok?

The game is based on the animated film which sees the main hero, Flint – a wannabe genius, try to impress his dad by creating wierd and wonderful gadgets and inventions. One of which is a machine that makes various food fall from the sky but gets out of control prompting Flint to try to fix problems throughout the city.

The 2 player antics in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

And that’s where the game kicks off-in Flint’s lab where he has access to a map to pick missions from. The missions are broken down into acts which each act getting progressively more complex and requiring you to swap between Flint’s homemade gadgets to get thru various obstacles such as massive ice creams that need melting etc.

Overall the game has a platform element and primarily is aimed for a younger generation. For kids that enjoyed the film it is a game that steadily increases in difficulty and stays true to the film’s story.

The main issue we found when reviewing Cloudy is the repetitiveness of each act. As mentioned before-the game is divided into acts with each act comprising of sub levels. The issue is each sub level is set in the same location as the previous act’s counterpart using the same gadgets. Although more gadgets are introduced on later levels it feels like a lack of originality in Cloudy the further you get.

Overall it’s not necessarily a bad game-it’s just not great.
