Who’s afraid of the big black bat? Well after he took down the Joker, Killer Croc and a hundred or so goons inside Arkham Asylum, you would think the criminal master minds of Gotham City would all be quaking in their boots at the thought of Batman roaming free through Arkham City in Rocksteady’s forthcoming release.

Scheduled for October 2011, Batman Arkham City follows on from the original game but this time rather than confined to just the Asylum for the criminally insane, the sandbox city of Arkham is opened up, promising much more freedom.

But its not just the open-city approach that is new to Batman this time around – we have also seen a few new faces in the form of Catwoman and 2-Face Harvey Dent who is in cahoots with the Joker again.

PlayEject have also seen the improved combat techniques in action with double takedowns and even more stealth options to tactically eliminate the minions of the Joker (including a very cool smoke-bomb to allow you zip up and away from the enemy and drop down behind them again without them knowing).

As Arkham City will allow free-roaming, the way Batman gets around the environment is key to the progression and success (we imagine) of the game. Its encouraging to know that the gliding controls from Arkham Asylum have been improved so Batman can now glide farther and with more direction and control. The use of grappling to buildings and objects to help scale buildings is also available which when combined with the new takedowns and larger number of enemies on screen (with the improved game engine) Batman Arkham City should provide excitement and action for all fans of the caped crusader!
